Samba-Mayela's silver medal is the first of any color for France at the Olympic track meet this year. Russell finished in 12.33 seconds, while Samba-Mayela finished in 12.34 seconds. Defending champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who competes for Puerto Rico, took home the bronze medal. This was a close race, with Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi winning the men's 800 by just .01 seconds and Faith Kipyegon of Kenya winning the women's 1500 in an Olympic record time of 3:51.29. Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway won the men's 5000 in a relatively drama-free race, adding to his wins at the past two world championships.
