Columbus Blue Jackets Honor Late Johnny Gaudreau with Emotional Tributes
The Columbus Blue Jackets are honoring their late star player, Johnny Gaudreau, with several emotional tributes this season.
Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, were tragically killed by a suspected drunk driver in New Jersey three weeks ago. The team is leaving Gaudreau's locker room stall empty this season to pay tribute to him, with teammate Sean Monahan taking the spot next to it.
The Blue Jackets are also grieving as a team and honoring Gaudreau by constantly asking themselves, 'What would Johnny want us to do?'
Gaudreau's loss is still fresh, but the team is determined to start the new season off on the right foot and improve on last season's poor record.
'I’ll miss him the rest of my life,' said Monahan. 'There’s a lot of weight on our shoulders right now.'
