Republican Rick Scott Wins Re-Election to Senate; GOP Regains Senate Control in 2025
Republican Sen. Rick Scott has won re-election to the Senate in Florida, securing a second term. The GOP has also regained control of the Senate in 2025, as projected by the Fox News Decision Desk. Scott, who previously served as Florida's governor, was challenged by Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. During his campaign, Scott also ran for Republican leader in the next Senate, facing opponents John Thune and John Cornyn. Many Democratic senators were vulnerable in the 2024 elections, making it difficult for them to hang onto the majority. The newly elected Republican senators will soon participate in a secret ballot to select the next person to control the Senate floor after Chuck Schumer.
