Qantas, Australia's biggest airline, has agreed to pay a $100m penalty and an additional $20m to affected ticket holders to settle a landmark legal action over selling thousands of tickets for cancelled flights. The settlement ends a legal battle with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and is the largest penalty the ACCC has ever imposed as part of a settlement. The airline has also entered into a remediation program, paying about 86,000 affected customers between $225 and $450 each. The penalty is in response to Qantas misleading consumers and is a step towards restoring confidence in the national carrier.
