NATO Scrutinizing Relations With Russia, Boosting Support For Ukraine
NATO is reviewing its relationship with Russia** in light of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. Discussions will begin during a meeting of defense ministers in Brussels on October 17-18. The alliance is considering the future of the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act, as some nations believe it is invalidated by Russia's actions. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is visiting NSATU in Germany to discuss long-term security assistance for Ukraine. This new body will coordinate both assistance and training efforts for Ukraine, but won't replace the Ukraine Defence Contact Group. The review of NATO's relations with Russia was approved in July 2024, and the new strategy is expected to be finalized in June 2025.
