Panzi District, Democratic Republic of Congo** is currently experiencing a severe outbreak of an unknown illness. Health authorities are working tirelessly to identify the cause, with the first confirmed cases recorded at the end of October. The illness has already resulted in nearly 80 deaths and over 370 reported cases. Children are at a particularly high risk, with 40% of cases occurring in those under 5, most of whom are already weakened by malnutrition. The illness is currently believed to be either viral or bacterial.
