Indonesia's New President Prabowo Subianto Promises to Eradicate Corruption and Poverty
Indonesia's new president, Prabowo Subianto, has been sworn in with the largest cabinet in decades. The former military general won the presidential election in February with over 58% of the votes, against two other candidates. Subianto, who was previously accused of human rights abuses, has pledged to eradicate corruption, poverty, and provide free school lunches and milk to millions of students. He has also promised to continue Widodo's modernization efforts, which have boosted Indonesia's economic growth. Subianto's inauguration marks the end of an era under former leader Joko Widodo, who presided over a decade of economic growth and infrastructure development in Indonesia.
