DR Congo Kicks Off Mpox Vaccination Amid Global Emergency
Congo** has started mpox vaccinations**,** nearly two months after the disease outbreak was declared a global emergency. The US and EU donated 265,000 doses for Goma city in North Kivu province, where hospitals and health workers are struggling to contain the new and possibly more infectious strain. Congo accounts for 80% of the cases and 99% of the deaths reported in Africa. The vaccines are for adults and will be given to at-risk populations and front-line workers. At least 3 million doses for children are expected from Japan.
